309...

The number I got to today. Better than I expected, since I said I would spend much time playing with my new DSi, which by the way, I bought. A black one, yeah.

I added 46 cards today, but today, I only learned about 30. I'm afraid that's my pace, dammit. This month will be tough because I have tests and lots of homework to do, but of course, I will not forget RTK, NEVER! I wanna finish it as soon as possible because I wanna finish both Genki's before college. In my 夏 vacations I shall spend my days learning kanji, and I'll work to finish it ASAP before vacations. Tomorow I'll go hardcore on kanji. See if I can get to 400.

Tired. Bye.

Why do I continue not keeping my promises?

Well, yeah! It's frustrating! Yesterday I said that today I would land on frame 300, well that didn't happen, but I know it could have! That's why it's FRUSTRATING! I stopped in kanji 180, but I still haven't found a story for the frame 180. I have the time, but I don't do it D:

These new kanji are easier. Tomorow I'll go to Gaia to buy the Nintendo DSi, so I'm not sure how much time I'll have to study, but I will study, even if it's just for 10 minutes. Soon after waking up (at 7AM) I'll study kanji, go to school, come home to have lunch, go to a friend's house to make the homework, go to Gaia, come back, try my new DS and study some more. Hopefully! Friday there's no school, so I hope to study big time. I'll study a bit less in the weekend because next week I have to tests and need to study. But I'll save one hour for kanji. At least.

I'm tired now, my 首 hurts.

Finally some progress...!

Today my book arrived, as you might already know, I added 46 new kanji to my pile. I tried to review the ones for today, but I forgot the first two and quit, I quit because I tend to remember the kanji better in the day following their study, so hopefully I shall have a way better performance. Nevertheless, I reviwed about 80 kanji and only got 3 wrong.

I stopped in kanji 262. Tomorow I expect to arrive to kanji 300 at least. I will wake up at 6AM, have a bath and afterwards I will learn some more. I'm just afraid that I happen not to know the kanji from today and got them mixed with the ones I'll learn tomorow.

がんばってね。

My textbooks!

And to show you my commitment in learning japanese, here's the rest of my japanese language learning stuff. Before starting RTK I was in Genki's lesson 10, first volume. I just hope RTK works, otherwise I've been wasting my time. But so far so good. I'm enjoying it to its fullest.
Kodansha's Essential Kanji Dictionary is really useful, every japanese language student should have it. It has all the joyo kanji, with several examples for each one. The indexes are somewhat useful and easy to use.

Sorry for the pic, it's a bit blurry :|

Oh and by the way, later on you should hear from me again, I'll post my updates for today.

Guess who has arrived...?

Guess who has arrived today...?

That's it! Remembering the Kanji from James W. Heisig just arrived! When I got back home from my grandma's a package was close to my door. No positive feedback for the postman who left it there, someone could've stolen my dear book! No kudos for you postman! You officially suck!

Anyway, I never thought the book was as huge as it is, really! It's so thick!

A successful re-review for today

Yup, that's right, I successfuly review the kanji I had learned a few days ago, not all tough, I review the ones from yesterday and today. Read the very first post of this blog, and you'll understand.I learned till kanji 235 in the first time. As I started to forget all of 'em I decided I should re-learn those same kanji I hadn't made up a story for yet (yeah, I didn't create any stories for some kanji and forgot them, that's why).

I started (today) on kanji 182 and finished on 216. 34 kanji for today. Tomorow I shall at the very least study the ones I still didn't. 19 kanji missing from those I'm still re-reviewing.

And no, my RTK book still hasn't arrived.

Aftermath...

...for today. In other words, my progress.
Let's see, today I started on kanji 150 and finished in kanji 181. 31 kanji for today. Bad considering I had previously studied these a few days ago. I could have studied so much more. I need to 省 more. I usually study with the TV turned on and I study in my computer, with internet...you get my point.

I hope my book arrives tomorow, as Amazon previously said, but I highly doubt it. Tomorow I shall study-review again, hopefully till kanji 235 as I had already did, but this time I'll make sure to actually make up stories for the kanji. Good god (and I'm a proud agnostic, lol), tomorow, I REALLY have to do this. I MUST catch up all the kanji I already knew.

100 kanji a day? Yeah right...
But actually, in the first day I started learning, I learned around 60 kanji! If I was able to do this in a few hours (3, I think) I can do this again. And if I have the time I could even surpass that mark.

Why? Why?!

My cousin's here. That fact, however, does not interfere with my kanji study, I'm here, just trying to make up an excuse for the fact that, today, I still haven't touched kanji yet. And this is so bad. I wanna go for it, but I HATE (with capital letters) to study on my laptop. Argh, I should have ordered the book earlier. This is not an excuse tough, I bet I can learn kanji faster if I do it with my laptop, because I'm constantly going to that "One kanji, one picture" thread in 漢字コーヒー to get easier stories for the kanji.

I could have learnt already, at the very least 500 hundred kanji! 1/4! And I'm still on kanji 150! This sucks! Why? I think I'm afraid to learn kanji, fearing that I'll forget them eventually. I'm such a quitter. No I'm not. I WILL learn kanji no matter what! After all, do I wanna be the best or not? I know I can do this, it's not that hard! And it only lasts a month or so.

Well, see you later. 泊 I shall post my "today's progress".
さようなら。

Kanji I'm having trouble with

卓 - eminent
貞 - upright
負 - defeat
削 - plane
臭 - stinking

Ok, so, I was going to put the kanji I had trouble with until the kanji 235, but I decided to study from scratch, beggining in the kanji 144, instead. I just realized I studied these without stories for lots of'em. Damn it. Nevertheless, I'm happy I know from where to (re)start. Already removed the kanji 145-235 from my review list on 漢字コーヒー.

Any tips or comments would be apreciated.

日本語を勉強するつもりですよ。

RTK Study!

Hello.
My name's Carolina, I'm a portuguese 17 year old who is trying to learn japanese as must as possible before going to college (Asian Studies, starting in September, hopefully). I created this blog because I shall start using Remembering the Kanji next week. Its estimated arrive date is Monday.

I'm on frame 235 already, yeah, I downloaded the book, but since I hate to study from PDFs I actually bought it. I'd say that from that 235 kanji I already studied, I know only like 60+%, but I'm not sure.I only started using the method a bit late, before I only memorized the kanji and the meaning, not the story, but now I know. Having that said I intend to study for real when the book arives. This weekend I shall review some kanji I failed and will try to create a story for the ones who haven't got one.

I shall post here everyday, to tell you my progress. My *real* aim is to do 100 kanji a day, but having already tried it and having not been sucessful I'll get happy if I do 50 a day. Of course, if I have the chance, I'll try to do as many as I can.

Other than my kanji progress, I'll make sure to post tips to learning, usefull websites, everything else about kanji, about japanese, and even some "off-topic", always related to Japan.

I'm a bit 頑, so hopefully that'll keep me motivated and ready to this kanji journey.
